Ridgewood Barbecue

The in-laws are in town. So, we decided it was finally time to go to Ridgewood Barbecue. I’ve heard about this place since my Freshman year at Milligan. I always assumed it was really hard to find and really expensive for a college student – so, I never went. I recently discovered that my initial thoughts were wrong. While it’s not cheap, you don’t have to break open your piggy bank to eat there. It wasn’t too hard to find, either.

They open at 4:30 for dinner. We arrived at 4:25, and there was a line of at least 25 people already waiting. It was well worth the wait! The baked beans were the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The portions were large and quite tasty. I think it’s the best barbecue I’ve had in the area.

One person disagrees with me. Carolina Bill thinks it’s over hyped. His criticisms, however, are a little off base. I saw nothing but Tennessee and Virginia plates in the parking lot. And besides, Firehouse offers beef on its menu. Guess it’s not a “real” bbq house…even though he recommends it.

Ridgewood definitely deserves a return trip (or two…or three…or infinity plus one).
