Kentucky Horse Park (part 1)

As mentioned earlier, we stopped at the Kentucky Horse Park on the way down to Tennessee’s fair eastern mountains. Alyson and Christy were in heaven, I tell you! Hea-ven! There were several lessons learned during our stay at the Park- none of which had anything to do with horses. But that’s another post for another day.

Apparently, half of the park is under construction and renovation in preparation for the World Equestrian Games in 2010. I guess it’s a big deal because they’re building some pretty large facilities. They seemed pretty proud of the fact that they are hosting the event. And rightfully so. I mean, people in Indy are pretty proud of the fact that their fine city is hosting the 2012 Super Bowl. And there are still signs posted in Georgia celebrating the fact that Atlanta hosted the Olympic Games 12 years ago. So this is probably something to be celebrated. All of the construction did, however, limit what we were able to see because you make noise when you build stuff. And noise spooks the horses. And the Horse Park is all about the horses.

We’ve encouraged Aiden to ride a pony on several different occasions. He would decline at every opportunity. When we asked him if he wanted to ride a pony this time, we assumed he’d say no. He surprised us by saying yes! He seemed remarkably comfortable during the entire experience. I guess our little guy is growing up, huh?
