Golf Outing

Some friends of mine entered a golf scramble and needed a fourth player. They asked me to join them. So I spent the day yesterday playing 18 holes of golf for the first time in almost 10 years. Actually, it’s very close to 10 years to the day. I know that because the last time I went golfing was when the groomsmen went the day Mike and Angie got married.

We had a good time yesterday. And I think I taught them a thing or two. Like how to slice the ball every time you hit it from the tee. Seriously. I probably sliced it 90% of the time. And that’s the way it’s always been. People have tried to help me fix my slice and haven’t been able to. I guess it’s just one of those gifts I’ve been given.

I also learned a few things, too. I learned that best ball tournaments are pretty fun because there’s really no pressure. There are many times where I’ve been playing golf for my own score and think, “How on earth is this relaxing?” But that’s because there’s so much pressure on you to perform. It’s all individual. You can rely on your teammates a little more playing best ball.

I learned that I can putt better than I remember.

Although I already knew that I don’t have the money to golf regularly (if at all) right now, I learned that golf (much like fishing) can quickly become a very, very expensive hobby. I saw some pretty fancy equipment.

And today I learned that I have muscles that I didn’t even know existed. Because they’re sore. Very sore.
