Faith & Family Night

Ever since we moved back down here, we’ve wanted to go to a ‘Faith & Family Night’ with the Johnson City Cardinals. I mean, you really can’t beat $1 tickets and $1 hot dogs and a free concert! Apparently, events similar to the ‘Faith & Family Night’ are common within the Cardinals organization (or most other baseball organizations, for that matter), as discussed here.  It’s apparently quite successful here.  I’m sure there were more people at this game than the previous two games we’d visited combined.  That makes for lots of concessions sales!

This past Wednesday was a ‘Faith & Family Night.’ Our Community Group meets on Wednesday nights. I made an executive decision and relocated our meeting to the ballpark. Geoff Moore (I know it’s pronounced ‘Jeff,’ but I like to say ‘Jeee-Off’ just to be difficult) played in the ‘celebrity’ softball game, then gave an hour-long concert, sang the Star-Spangled Banner, and finally threw out the first pitch. I was surprised at how many songs I acutally recognized. Of course, his big hit in CCM right now is his version of ‘When I Get Where I’m Going’ – which will always remind me of Bill Peroni…but that’s a different post (one I should have posted six months ago) for a later date – and I knew I’d recognize that one.

In spite of the fact that we had to tell most of the members of our Community Group that we’re leaving at the end of the month, it wasn’t that bad of a night. I love watching live baseball. Can’t stand it on TV. It’s pretty fun to watch in person, though. Every time we go to a game, I remember all of the major league games I was able to visit with my family growing up. We’ve been to quite a few different ballparks – which is pretty cool!

Now that we’re moving to central Indiana, I can easily see taking Aiden to a Cardinals game or two before he’s too cool to spend time with his dad. Other stadiums aren’t that far away, either. But we have to go to the new Busch Stadium! Aiden’s already a huge Cardinals fan (he’d make Uncle Kevin and my Dad’s brothers proud). He even bought a St. Louis Cardinals souvenir helmet with his own money at the game!

Aiden and Aly getting as close as they could to the action.  Notice Aiden’s stylin’ new baseball helmet.

Aiden clapping at the Jee-Off Moore concert.  It was weird.  At one point, I felt like I was in high school youth group again because of the songs he sang.  It was even weirder watching Aiden get into the music.  He was much more into the baseball game, though.  He was yelling for the Cardinals at the top of his lungs.  We made sure to bring his Cardinals finger he bought last year.  He waved it throughout most of the game!
