There’s a first time for everything

Went to a “haunted” maze with people from church tonight. My first time to go to anything like that on Halloween weekend. It was…OK. I had fun with the people that went. I think it might have been more scary if I were by myself or with just one more person. There were 8 of us, though. The “scary people” kinda seemed like their hearts weren’t in it yet. We were the third group to go through after the sun went down, so maybe they were getting warmed up.

Some things could have been done differently to make it more scary. There were too many lights from surrounding buildings. Because of that, you could see people before they jumped out at you (it was a corn maze). The other problem, though, was it was just dark enough that you couldn’t see any of the characters’ faces. So, they stood there like they were scary, and I’m sure they would have been if I could see them. It’s also not nearly as frightening when you know they can’t touch you. There was a mechanical dog that made everyone jump, though. The dark tunnels were a little on the eerie side, too.

I still screamed a couple of times – just to make them feel better.

I felt bad after we exited the maze, though. We were laughing and making jokes about what we saw, and a girl (late 20s?) in the group that finished right after we did was crying her eyes out. Apparently, this was the first time she had experienced anything remotely haunted or scary at all.

In spite of the low score on frightfulness, we had a good time.
