Too close for comfort

Last night, I wanted to run over to the new church building and drop stuff off for today’s carnival. Christy suggested I wait until morning because downtown is not the place you really want to be by yourself at midnight.

Glad I listened to her.

The Sophisticated Otter is about a block away from the church facility. I saw the police investigating the crime scene. The investigators’ body language showed it wasn’t a good thing that had happened. Found out later that morning that someone was shot and killed in that parking lot.

I heard rumors of it being gang related, but the police aren’t saying anything – as expected. There have been two other shootings in that parking lot this year. The lot actually belongs to a bookbinder/seller. Our church almost bought their building from them. It fell through at the last minute. There was a late night car crash that killed someone outside of our new facility back in May, but someone actually being shot and killed in our parking lot would have been a pretty shocking thing to deal with.

There are many ups to the future location of Southside. Sounds like there are some risks involved, too.
