The Big 3-2

Christy and the kids took me out to eat for my birthday on Saturday evening. We were originally going to go to Texas Roadhouse in Muncie. Christy mentioned that she needed to do something in Anderson and wondered if it would be OK to go to the one there. It made no difference to me, so I agreed.

Before we left, I almost said, “Hey, why don’t you call Kevin & Liz and see if they want to meet us there?” But I decided not to.

Well, Christy had the same idea. She had already invited them to come along (that’s why we needed to go to Anderson – it’s halfway for both of us). So we pull into the parking lot when she gets a call from Liz on the cell. After a few minutes, she hung up and said, “Well, surprise! Kevin & Liz are here, but we’re now going to another steakhouse instead.” Christy had called before we left to see if she could sign us up for call ahead seating. They told her that they didn’t do call ahead seating. It didn’t sound like there were many people there, so everything sounded OK.

It wasn’t. Liz was calling to inform Christy that there were two large groups ahead of us and because we were a group of 7, the wait could be an hour…maybe even two. And this was at 4:45 in the afternoon. Not the peak dining hour. If I heard correctly, they might have even suggested that we should have used call ahead seating.

This is the second time in a row that we’ve tried to use call ahead seating at a restaurant and were hung out to dry. When we tried to call ahead when we went to Milano Inn in downtown Indy. The lady who answered the phone said they don’t do call ahead seating, but we shouldn’t have any trouble getting in. We get there and the place is full. They tell us they can’t guarantee us a table because there was a Colts game and we should have used call ahead seating. We eventually ate there. And the food was great. It was still an aggravating evening.

Here we were again, trying to call ahead and being denied. When we get there it’s clear that we could have and should have used call ahead seating. Not very happy.

We went to Lone Star instead, and had a great time! Thanks, Texas Roadhouse!

After waiting a whole five minutes, we were seated. As the hostess walked us back to our table, the kids kept saying, “It’s our Daddy’s birthday today!” “Today’s Daddy’s birthday!” So much for keeping a low profile.

Of course, the real star of the evening was St. Caedmon – as he should be.
