Catch Up
Sometimes when I play a video game and I’m on a roll, I have to pause the game simply to take a breath and re-gather my thoughts so I can focus. Almost like my mind needs a chance to catch up. Sometimes, there are times when I wish life had a pause button. You know those times – everything’s going on at once and you just need a few extra moments to catch up in order to get things done on time.
I woke up early this morning because I had some last-minute changes to my sermon. That’s not really a big deal. It happens almost every week. I’ve kind of gotten used to it. But this morning was different. Christy was in the middle of this big-huge final project that she had to complete for school by today (it has to be bound and it’s really due Monday afternoon – but she wouldn’t have any time to get it bound anywhere). So, I needed to be more available to get the kids ready for church so she could focus on her project. As I typed away furiously at my revisions for the sermon, I thought about getting up and looking for the pause button. I really just needed a few extra minutes to focus on getting things on paper without any other outside influences. Of course, I didn’t find that pause button. And that’s OK. The kids made it to church. I managed to get my thoughts down on paper. And yes, Christy completed her project and now has two nicely bound copies of her inch-thick portfolio.
And when it comes to updating this thing, I feel like I need a pause button all over again. There’s so much I need to share. So many things we’ve done as a family, so many thoughts I have, so many pictures to post…and I just haven’t had the time. I’ve gotten out of the discipline of updating, which would help me reflect on recent events in a broader context. But until I find that fabled pause button, I’ll have to resign myself to the fact that this might be out of date for the next few weeks. It’ll get there, though.
For now, it’ll take some patience while I try to play catch up.
Until I find that pause button, that is.
