It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas…

I normally don’t get that excited about Christmas until later in December. I don’t know why. It’s not that I don’t like Christmas – I love it! It’s just always felt like we were celebrating Christmas too early and it was somehow losing some luster.

Not this year.

Maybe it’s because I’m in ‘Christmas mode’ in sermon preparation. Maybe it’s because I’m not stressing out about finishing projects or preparing for Greek, Hebrew, or some other class that decided to kick my tail. Maybe it’s because I didn’t really like being so far away from family during the holidays. Maybe it’s because the kids have been formulating Christmas lists since…oh…I don’t know…Labor Day (or close to that). Speaking of lists, here’s a picture of Aiden’s list…

I don’t know the reason. I really don’t care. I do know that I’ve gotten into the ‘Christmas spirit’ much earlier this year. We had a hanging of the green Tuesday evening at church. After everyone had left, I went around to make sure lights were shut off. I went into the sanctuary to turn off the Christmas music we had playing and entered a dark room with the Christmas tree all aglow in the corner and the carols playing overhead. It was a definite ‘Hallmark moment.’ I could have stayed there all night!

It was then that I realized that I’m genuinely excited about Christmas much earlier than I normally am.  Just wait until we get our tree this weekend.  Guess I’ll be oozing Christmas by then!
