A nifty little town
I’ve decided that Jonesborough, TN is the coolest town in the world!
OK, that might be slight hyperbole, but it’s a really great little town. Almost every Friday night in the summer, there’s a free concert on the courthouse steps. Even if you don’t like the musicians, you can’t pass up the city market and the free concert. Most of it has some local flavor, which makes it all the more fitting for the city.
Then, there’s the St. Nick Nights leading up to Christmas. All of the events are free – including horse-drawn carriage rides, a snow machine, Christmas caroling, and a chance to meet Santa. And the Santa was the best Santa I’ve ever seen. He talked with the kids for quite a while. On top of that, he had them strike some great poses for the camera. Even that was free! I’ll post pictures as soon as they’re developed. It might be a week from now, though.
I never thought I’d say I’ll miss Jonesborough when we move away (whenever that is). When you go at the right time, it’s quite a nifty little town. I’m not the only one who thinks so. Although I don’t listen to him much, I have heard Mike Gallagher sing the praises of Jonesborough several times. He thinks it’s classic “small town America,” like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting.
I’m not sure if I disagree.
