In the mail

So, I finally got my initial “team-raising” letter in the mail – two months later than planned! It took longer than I thought to get everyone’s addresses in order. I think I also delayed (unconsciously, of course) because there is a financial aspect to this, as well. Working with SMI means that I have to raise my own support, which means I have to ask people for money. That’s just a little bit awkward.

Christy told me a couple days ago that she had always ruled out serving as a missionary in Russia because she didn’t want to have to do fundraising. And now, here we are – raising funds! Oh, the irony!

I hope people commit to more than just giving money, though. We really need people to pray for us! I want to make sure there is a large network of prayer support for our ministry endeavors. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about church work, it’s the fact that I cannot do any of it on my own! The task is too great and large to accomplish without the work of the Father. Hopefully this network will continue to grow, and will be maintained after my time at Emmanuel and Sonlife are completed. It would be so cool to have people start praying for the church plant in Evansville that won’t be there for several years!

On a related note, Tuesday morning was our meeting with Don, a campus minister at USI. It was exciting! It was really cool to hear the heartbeat of his ministry, and to also hear some of the needs of the West side. Sounds like there is some momentum building for something new – something “outside the box.” The more I talk with people about church plants on the West side, the more I think that this dream (vision?) I’ve had is much larger than my own. God is already laying the groundwork in that area. It’s so tempting to just drop out of school and move to Evansville right now. I know that is not what God wants from us, though. There are too many things for me to learn from Emmanuel, as well as through my staff position at Sonlife, and leaving now would be premature. I guess God is using this as another way for me to learn patience and to wait on His lead.

I have so much to learn…
