Closed doors

I’m certainly glad God closed one door that was open to me this past summer. If I had taken the preaching position at the church in Bicknell, I’m absolutely certain that I’d be seriously considering moving out of that area by now.

Bicknell has a huge meth problem. While I believe there needs to be people reaching out to the Bicknell community, it would be hard for me to justify putting my kids in a position where their lives would be in danger. The events in Crothersville have driven that idea home with me. Both are small towns with meth problems in Indiana. I’m sure I’d be worried that if it could happen there, it could happen to my kids, too. I’d be ready to get out of Dodge – not for my protection, but for my kids’ benefit.

Of course, there’s a meth problem here, too. No children have been murdered because they might have seen something, though. If the Crothersville guys don’t get the death penalty, I really wonder why we even have that punishment in our country. At least their secret drug use is safe, eh?

Call me less of a Christian if you’d like, but I’m glad I’m not in Bicknell.
