The wonders of modern technology

Apparently, someone at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway has decided they need to keep the arcane policy of not allowing the local ABC-affiliate to broadcast the race live. I could be wrong in my understanding of the situation, but that’s the way I understand it. Regardless of the reason, I couldn’t watch the Indy 500 on TV.

I asked a server at BW3 if they’d be showing the race via a satellite feed. She said yes. Maybe she was thinking of the upcoming NASCAR race, because there was no Indy 500 on the big screens. They were showing the Reds baseball game and some type of fishing contest. But no Indy cars.

Fortunately, there’s IndyCar.com. Although they didn’t show any replays, they did keep the video in sync with the radio announcers, which was pretty cool. I really like listening to them call the race on the radio. There’s just something about their excitement and passion for the sport. It’s intoxicating.

Anyway, here’s how I got to watch the race this year:

Yes. That’s a twitter stream on the left. The updates were pretty interesting to read while watching the race – especially the pregnancy drama. Ain’t technology grand?

Here’s a few more screen captures from my experience of this year’s race:

Just think…a month ago, Helio was facing a potential jail sentence. Now he’s a three-time Indianapolis 500 champion. Good for him.
