NBA Thoughts

I just finished watching Game 5 of the Pistons/Cavs series.  I watched a total of about five minutes of the entire game.  I probably hadn’t watched a total of five minutes of NBA basketball this entire season.  Tonight’s game reminded me why I can’t stand the NBA.  Hereare a few thoughts I had while watching:

* I think most of the hype surrounding the NBA ‘superstars’ is way overblown.  After watching LeBron James play, he might actually live up to the hype.  You’re going to hear stuff like ‘Jordanesque’ about his performance tonight.  They might actually be right.  I was impressed.  It was the only thing that impressed me about tonight’s game.

* I didn’t realize Chris Weber was back in Michigan.  Couldn’t stand him when he was at the University of Michigan.  Still can’t stand him now that he’s with Detroit.  Maybe he left that bad of a taste in my mouth when he was in college.

* A player takes four steps, is tapped on the wrist after the four steps.  After he gets tapped on the wrist, he shoots and scores.  Whistle blows.  Three-point play the old-fashioned way.  Except it’s not the old-fashioned way because they would have called him for traveling!  This is one of the reasons I don’t watch the game anymore.  They don’t call the basic violations.  It’s not basketball.  People might find it entertaining, but it’s not basketball.

* The offensive schemes reminded me of the Mike Davis era at IU – stand around and wait for someone to do something.  Again, that’s not basketball.  I don’t even think it’s very entertaining.  It made watching the Hoosiers painful to watch.  I feel the same way watching the NBA.

* I was watching Ferris Bueller’s Day Off before I switched to the game during a commercial.  I guess that’s what I get for channel surfing during commercials.  Shoulda just stuck with the movie.
