Carter Fold

As mentioned earlier, last Saturday was our first trip ever to the Carter Family Fold. After visiting, I can’t believe we never did anything like that while at Milligan! Our friends would have had a blast! Homecoming is soon. Maybe some of them will come down and we’ll drag them here.

How do you describe Carter Fold? A bluegrass-style hoedown? A mosh pit Appalachia-style?

I really don’t know, but it’s nothing like I’ve experienced anywhere else. I’m not even that comfortable dancing around people and I had a great time!

Waiting for the music to begin. We figured overalls and pigtails would help Aly blend in with the culture at the Fold.

The crowd at Carter Fold

The music started.

The cloggers rushed the floor.

Aiden and Alyson wanted to join them, but were hesitant once they got in the crowd. Notice them trying to get as close to Christy by the pole.

Aly caught on pretty quick. Aiden took a little longer.

Aiden & Mommy Slow Dancing

While we were trying to convince Aiden to join the cloggers, a slow song came on. Christy managed to coax Aiden into slow dancing with her.

They don’t play too many slow songs in a row because Ms. Carter, the founder of the Fold was too worried about “bellies rubbing too close together,” which is a no-no, I guess.

Aiden "Clogging"

After his initial hesitation, Aiden got into the clogging spirit. He went towards the front of the stage and began to dance. It wasn’t really clogging, though. It was more like The Twist. More importantly, he had a good time!

By the end of the night, Alyson was tired. She still wanted to dance, though. Guess who got to hold her while she danced?
