NTI fun

In preparing for my New Testament Intro final, I have come across a few quotes from our distinguished professor. I enjoy his class quite a bit. He doesn’t just throw out all of this information and expect us to simply regurgitate it on a test paper. He regularly addresses issues that will be of benefit in the real world of day-to-day ministry. And we haven’t really gotten into the New Testament yet! We’ve spent the majority of this semester discussing the cultural background surrounding the creation of the New Testament. Imagine what next semester will be like when we actually dig into the text.

So, here are some quotes and revelations from our professor. I like to call them Marwedisms. I know, I know. I’m delaying my return to studying. At least I’m looking back through my notes, though.

Drum roll, please:

* “It’s good to know something about Jesus.” That’s good to know, seeing we’re in seminary and all.

* When talking about memorable events – especially first-time events – in people’s lives, he talked about his first kiss. “Yeah, I know…I wish I could remember her name too.”

* “A lot of people who put this (New Quest for the Historical Jesus) into place have died. This quest should die with them.”

* “And Samson went down to the Philippines.”

* The most aggravating feature of the class is he pulls out his Bible and reads from it very fluently What’s so aggravating about that? He’s using the Greek text but reading it in English! If you couldn’t see the book itself, you’d have no idea that he’s reading from the Greek! How disgusting!
