Downhill from here?

Looking at the mindset of this year’s incoming freshman class, I have realized two things that make me feel very old…

This year’s freshmen never saw the Challenger fly (#54).

All of the mainstream press is making a big deal about this class having grown up with Starbucks. That’s not the big shocker to me. What bugs me isn’t even on the list…

This year’s incoming class was born the same year IU won its last national championship (1987)! They don’t remember IU as a national champion. I remember watching Keith Smart nail the game-winner like it was yesterday. OK, not quite that vividly, but I do remember watching the game and my dad calling up everyone he knew so he could borrow as much IU paraphernalia as possible to wear to work the next morning. I can’t say I blame him. He did work in Kentucky, after all. Believe me, I know what being in Kentucky can do to an IU fan!

Aaah…the glory of old IU (anyone catch the reference?)…

In some ways, it seems like yesterday that the Hoosiers were a dominant force in men’s basketball. In other ways, it seems like a very, very long time ago.

Which IU team’s “winning tradition” really needs restoration?

If this makes me feel old, does this mean I’ll keep feeling older and older every time one of these lists comes out? Is it really downhill from here? I’m not even thirty yet!!
