More Tornado Information
Last week, I found out from one of my professors that First Christian Church in Newburgh was planning on a Grand Opening for their new facility. The anticipated move in date was Christmas Eve of this year. As of last week, that has changed. The tornado that ripped through the Evansville area completely destroyed their new building.
I emailed a friend of mine who attends First Christian. As of this weekend, he hadn’t been able to get close to the damage because the National Guard was blocking everyone without a permit. He said it looks like the sanctuary completely imploded, though.
I just found this article regarding the destruction at First Christian. $3-5 million dollars in damage! That’s…well, words can’t really describe it.
Another friend of mine, a campus minister at USI, was one of the ministers who accompanied the families as they returned to their homes for the first time. Here’s his post.
It’s been more than a week since the destruction and the stories keep coming in!
Keep praying for the recovery and reconstruction efforts in Evansville.
