Kids Carnival…part 2

Her name is Devin, and she was at the small “block party” we threw together back in early June. She came again today to the kids carnival. She lives with her mom and they are counting down the days before we open the doors to the new church facility because they plan on being there. Apparently, Devin doesn’t have many friends her age. Her mom has promised her that she’ll take her places where she can make friends. She thinks our church will be the perfect place.

Yet again, it’s all about relationships.

If Devin and her mom were the only people to come to the carnival today, it would have been worth it. Even one connect would make it a success. I think this family is an example of many families in the Tree Streets – struggling, lonely, looking for a place to connect. I believe God has orchestrated our move to the Southside community better than we could have imagined.

We didn’t have anyone make an official head count of visitors. We estimate that there were 25 kids and their parents participated during the 3 hours of the carnival. We had some insurance issues, so we couldn’t use any of the bouncy games we had planned, but I think the kids really had fun. Christy bought a machine that shaves ice for snow cones and it was a big hit! More importantly, we got the word out about our future move into the area and we built some bridges into the neighborhood. All things considered, the carnival was a big success.

To top it off, as soon as we drove away from the park after clean-up, the rain came down…and down…and down. Tons of rain – and none of us got wet at the carnival. Coincidence? I think not.

God is good. All the time!
