During Thanksgiving weekend in 2023, our family donned our ugly Christmas sweaters* to kick off the Christmas season at the Footlite Family Holiday revue. It was a memorable night full of festive fun – singing, dancing, and Santa.

An added bonus was getting to see my friend Ashley perform. I’d known Ashley for the better part of a decade when she became my boss, helping my team blaze new trails into the untamed digital PR landscape. That company’s long-gone, but we’ve managed to keep in touch.

I didn’t know it at the time, but the holiday revue we attended was Ashley’s first on-stage performance since college. As I mapped out this season of THE MattDanToddcast Podcast, I knew I wanted to talk to her about her journey back to the stage. And Ashley did not disappoint. Our conversation covers the lingering impact of a blunt director, the bond forged by theater, the dance studio she co-directs, the Indianapolis-area theater community, and pursuing your passions (regardless of your age).

As expected, I really enjoyed catching up with Ashley. I think you’ll enjoy our conversation!

*Well, all of us except Mihret. She didn’t have an ugly sweater to wear, so she dressed in her fanciest holiday outfit instead.
