Apple Nachos are great. They’re an outside-the-box way to celebrate International Eat An Apple Day (September 17), National Dessert Day (October 14), International Day of the Nacho (October 21), Apple Day (also October 21 – how convenient), National Nacho Day (November 6), Honestly? They’re great any old day. You don’t really need an international or a national day as an excuse. But it’s fun. Right?
They’re so easy to make and they take about five minutes to prepare. I’d like to thank my sister in law, Liz, for introducing us to this amazing concoction more than a decade ago.
What you need:
- 2 apples
- apple slicer (or a paring knife)
- cutting board
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter
- 1/4 cup of mini chocolate chips
- microwave-safe bowl
- 1/4 cup of marshmallows
What to do:
Core and slice the apples. I used an apple corer-slicer and then cut each slice in half again.
Arrange apples on a plate.
In 15-second increments, melt peanut butter in a microwave. Stir occasionally. Don’t overcook the peanut butter. You want it creamy enough to drizzle. That’s all.
Drizzle the melted peanut butter over the sliced apples.
Add marshmallows by sprinkling them on top of the nachos.
Sprinkle mini chocolate chips over the dessert.
Eat and enjoy! You’d better hurry, though. Because if your family is anything like ours, it won’t be long before the whole house descends on this dessert and essentially licks the plate clean!
This Apple Nacho recipe is super customizable
The beauty of this dish is that it’s highly customizable to your family’s tastes. You can add another apple or two. You can increase or decrease the amount of toppings as you see fit. Some people add chopped nuts. Others top their Apple Nachos with shredded coconut. I know some families don’t include marshmallows. You could add any topping you choose. You can even add sliced bananas if you’re feeling adventurous. Like I said, it’s easily customized.
It’s also a fun way to eat more fruit. And who doesn’t need more fruit in their diet?
Apple Nachos are a great, effortless end to a great meal. They’re also a great snack. They’re a go-to family-favorite at our house.
Enjoy your Apple Nachos!
