Our Coasting for Kids update. Thanks, Indiana Beach!
Growing up in southwestern Indiana, I never really heard of Indiana Beach. Christy thinks that’s funny because that’s all she heard about when she was growing up. She was constantly reminded that there is more than corn in Indiana.
Christy and I have been married for more than twenty years. We’ve talked about visiting Indiana Beach. But we’d never visited Indiana Beach together. Don’t get me wrong. Christy had visited Indiana Beach several times when she was growing up. Me? I never heard of it until I moved to TennesseeĀ andĀ attended a college full of central Indiana folk. Fortunately, our Indiana Beach drought finally came to an end when we were given the opportunity to help raise money for Give Kids The World Village through a fundraiser called Coasting for Kids. In case you don’t know our connection with Give Kids The World Village, you can find our story here.
Coasting for Kids at Indiana Beach
Other Wish Kid families from the region also participated in Coasting for Kids. It was great to be able to team up with so many other families and give back to an organization that has had such a great impact on so many kids and their families. Our goal was to raise enough money to fully fund one family’s stay at Give Kids The World. I don’t know if we actually hit our collective goal, but we came pretty close.
Part of the fundraising effort involved going to Indiana Beach and riding their rides – especially their roller coasters. I mean, with an event called Coasting for Kids, it makes sense to ride roller coasters. Right? Of course it does. And y’all figured that out already.
Because y’all are smart.
So we accepted Indiana Beach’s invitation to ride their rides and eat their food (thanks again, Indiana Beach, for providing us with a delicious lunch as part of the event). We laughed, we screamed, we made memories. And we helped a Wish Kid have a wish come true.
Of course, we didn’t limit ourselves to the roller coasters. We toured beautiful Lake Shafer (in Monticello, Indiana) on a steamboat.
Mihret drove an Old Fashioned car, putting all drivers everywhere on notice.
We birds-eye (uh…I mean CROW’s-eye, since it’s Indiana Beach and all) view of the entire park (and beyond) on the Giant Gondola Wheel.
And that wasn’t all! It was a fun-filled day of coasters, family attractions, and thrill rides. It was certainly a day for the record books.
Mihret has begged to start a youtube channel for a long time.Ā Well…don’t tell her this, but I started one for her. I’ll share all of the details about it soon. In the meantime, we did a little practice run. I think she did a pretty good job. Don’t you?
Did Mihret really ride any roller coasters? Well…after riding each one, we decided that they were a little bit too much for her body to handle (sheĀ doesĀ have low muscle tone, after all). So what roller coaster is she talking about?
The log ride.
She loved it. In fact, she hopped right back on and rode it a second time. Might as well have been a roller coaster to her!
Thanks again.
I’d like to thank Indiana Beach and everyone who supported our Coasting for Kids fundraising efforts. Give Kids The World Village is a great, amazing, wonderful place and any way we can…1.) Get more people and organizations to support Give Kids The World Village and 2.) Support organizations that support Give Kids The World Village…is a-OK with me!
If you’re interested in helping a Coasting for Kids fundraiser (there might even be time to support ours!) or helping Give Kids The World Village in another way, hit me up! I might not know the answer, but I can help point you in the right direction.
