“We choose to go to the moon.” And they did.

We choose to go to the Moon! We choose to go to the Moon – we choose to go to the Moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard; because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win, and the others, too.” – John F. Kennedy (emphasis mine)

The men and women of NASA rose to the challenge. They did it. They went to the moon. Not because it was easy, but because it was hard. Some even thought it was impossible.

“That’s one small step for (a) man; one giant leap for mankind.” – Neil Armstrong

They did it. In an astounding achievement of human engineering, creativity, and ingenuity, they did it. They stepped up to the challenge and they did it. Apollo 11 sent men to the moon.

Are you facing challenges or picking low-hanging fruit?

As we recognize the anniversary of the lunar landing, I think it’s altogether fitting to ask ourselves what challenges we’re pursuing. What are you working towards? Is it a moon-shot: a big-huge crazy dream that some might think is just that…a hair-brained dream? Or are you taking the easy path and just picking the low-hanging fruit in your life?

If Apollo 11 challenges us to do anything, it’s to chase after your dream. Do the hard things. Face the challenges in front of you. Put in the hard work. Team up with other people. Dream big. Shoot for the moon and hang on. It might get bumpy.

But it is worth it.

Live life to the fullest. That’s what it behooves us to do, after all.
