We ate like kings at Bennett Spring
Some of the guys on the Bennett Spring fishing trip take their food seriously.
Very seriously.
So you can probably imagine the disdain expressed when we hear that someone who works with my dad asked, “Don’t you guys get tired of eating hot dogs all the time (while you’re fishing)?” Here are a few highlights…
Stuffed Asiago Burgers
Yes. That’s a burger stuffed with cheese, onion, and green pepper. It’s pretty amazing. I think I’m going to try to make one with barbecue, cheddar, and bacon in the near future. This is what it looks like when you’re prepping them:
Shrimp Boil
It looks like we’re preparing for an old fashioned Viking Feast at Crater Lake. I can’t believe I’ve never written about Viking Feasts on this blog. Gonna have to fix that. Soon. Viking Feasts are pretty memorable. We, however, did not “go Viking” with this meal. That’s probably a good thing.
Pork Chops
The pork chops were already smoked by Dewig Meats. Oh man, they were amazing.
You could have pork chops and applesauce if you wanted. Unfortunately, there just wasn’t enough room on my plate.
Steak
The sour cream on the baked potato?
It oozed out. All over the place. It was fabulous.
Fried Fish Eggs
One of the members of our crew, a resourceful fellow, kept the eggs from some of the female trout that he caught and fried them up as an appetizer one afternoon. It’s probably the closest I’ll ever come to having caviar. I’d like to say it tasted like chicken but…well…not so much. It did taste pretty good with a fried chicken egg, though.
As you can see, food is serious business at Bennett Spring. No one got tired of hot dogs while we were there.
