Author Spotlight: Julie Lindsey
I’m beginning a new feature here on Life in the Fishbowl: guest posts!
I love a good story. I have been telling stories since…well…since I began talking, I’d assume. It’s just part of who I am. I also believe it’s part of my make-up to help others tell their stories. So, I’ve opened up the floor of Life in the Fishbowl to some author friends of mine so I can help them tell their stories.
Julie and I crossed paths on Twitter back in November while we were sharing about our #NaNoWriMo progress. It’s been fun to follow her journey to her first published novel. I’m happy to host one of the stops on on her BLOOM Blog Tour throughout the Interwebs. Thanks, Julie, for sharing your story with us!
I Want to be an Author!
When I think of all the things I’d like to do before I die, the list of kind of short. My life is blessed beyond measure and I’m not a big traveler. That eliminates a ton of things right there LOL. I like my small life. It’s delightful. But I do have a personal dream. I want to be a writer.
About a decade back, I gave up a stressful career in psychiatric social work and replaced it with a whole new kind of stress. Motherhood. I even homeschooled a while. I loved it. But life changes and kids grow and now the oldest two are in school and Little Miss and I are hanging out together. Then a tiny seed grew roots in my mind. Somehow, I realized I had a gift. I used it frequently, but never saw it as anything noteworthy. Writing. I wrote for fun. I wrote for posterity. I wrote for friends who needed words they couldn’t find. I wrote a newsletter for a women’s ministry group I worked with. It took a while because I have a thick head, but eventually it occurred to me that *maybe* I could write a novel. Maybe my small life could have a big reach. Maybe.
I started reading up on how one goes about getting something published and I discovered a whole subculture of people out there searching for the same thing. I found a new extended family! I jumped in feet first and haven’t looked back. I’ve been transparent about it all, chronicling the journey at my blog Musings from the Slush Pile and laying it bare for all of Twitter to see. The response is overwhelmingly positive, loving, encouraging and informative. I’ve learned and grown so much thanks to other bookish friends.
In a way, I’ve met my goal. My debut novella BLOOM (a sweet romance) released in February and kicked off a new line of books as well as my Seeds of Love series. I’ve contracted a full length novel for this line as well. Honey Creek is a place after my own heart. Small. Tight knit. Loving. And a little nosey. In Honey Creek, things move a little slower, folks talk a little slower and good old fashioned values keep the neighbors in line. It’s not much different from my town. And I love the opportunity to reintroduce the concept of romance. The kind that happens in the heart.
I hope you’ll visit Honey Creek. It’s a beautiful place where anything can happen. Kick off your shoes, relax into that porch swing and cuddle up to a steamy mug of cider. Taking a trip to Honey Creek is as easy as Amazon : ) See you there!
Bloom by Julie Anne Lindsey
In a town filled with her past, she never expected to find her future…
Seven years ago Cynthia left Honey Creek with a broken heart. Three years ago Mitchell arrived with one. Now Cynthia’s come home, and these two hardened hearts can’t stop arguing. If they’d only take a break long enough to find some common ground, they might be surprised to find love can grow anywhere.
If they’ll let it, love will find a way to Bloom.
*Bloom is book one in my new Seeds of Love series. I’ll be planting those seeds all year.
