Remembering Roberts Stadium: Kenny G
It’s the only concert I went to see in Roberts Stadium.
Don’t judge me.
When I agreed to go in mid-1993, I was dating a girl from school. Of course, by the time I went to the concert in late-August (or early-September), we were Splitsville.
I went to the concert anyway.
I sat by her anyway.
Probably not the smartest choice I ever made. Lots of love songs. That’s great when you’re feeling all lovey-dovey. Not-so-great when you’re still dealing with the fallout of a breakup. Definitely not my favorite concert experience of all-time.
But at least I got a free dinner from Western Rib-eye out of it.
What’s the most memorable concert you went to? What made it so memorable?

Although I guess this could go under the “best” memory post, I will share my memory of the best concert at Roberts. I saw Garth Brooks at Roberts Stadium and it was one of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. It was my first “real” concerts (all those trips ot the Little Nashville Opry in Nashville, Ind. couldn’t hold a candle to this show!) Garth was worth my exorborant ticket price (probably about $30, which went a little farther back then), and no matter whether or not you like him, that man put on an amazing show. He never stopped moving. I remember being “wowed” when the show opened up with a man in a cowboy hat sitting at a grand piano, obviously Garth. He started singing and lo and behold, Garth Brooks rose up out from a person-shaped hole in the piano. Definetly my FAVORITE Roberts Stadium memory.
And, of course, the circus. I agree with you on being spoiled by the Shrine circus for sure.
Was that the 1994 or ’98 concert?
The 1998 one, since I was in high school. Also a cool show because Stephanie’s mom dropped us off so we could go alone.
