Civic Participation
Don’t wait to read the rest of this post. Do it.
Now!
(Please.)
I’m waiting…
…
Still waiting…
…
I’m serious. Go do it now.
…
Thank you. Yes, I am happy now, thankyouverymuch. This opportunity we have to participate in our government’s process and make sure our voices are heard is something people have been willing to die for.
And we take it for granted. We get disgusted by all the political ads. It’s easy to feel powerless. People might try to tell you that Washington doesn’t care a lick about you. We can make sure they do care.
But that only happens if you vote.
I just voted about 20 minutes ago. Christy is going to take Aiden with her after he’s done with Spell Bowl. We want our children to see and understand the process. We want them to be informed about our role in this amazing process we call representative government.*
And tonight, since I won’t be able to watch Caprica because Syfy made the biggest mistake since they changed their name, I’ll watch the election returns. And I’ll celebrate the process, hoping that the rest of the voting public agreed with my decisions.
And Washington will hear us.
*Notice I did not say democracy. That’s because we aren’t one. Well…not a direct democracy, anyway. We’re a representative democracy. But that’s a different post for a different time.
