Buy a Book, Give Water…Change the World
“An enormous step like adoption really isn’t one big step, it’s a thousand little ones made by a thousand people. It’s the slow drip of progress that changes the world. And we can’t do it alone.” – Kevin Hendricks
I have never met Kevin. But we do know each other through social networking – especially Twitter. We have a shared story in that both of us traveled to Ethiopia in 2009 and returned home with additions to our family. The Hendricks family brought Milo home in March. We brought Mihret home 6 months (almost to the day) later.
Kevin took nearly two years’ worth of tweets and compiled them into a book that is both funny and touching as he chronicles his family’s adoption journey and calls attention to one of the greatest needs around the world: clean water.
I laughed, I cried (OK…maybe not cried…but I did get a little misty-eyed), I was even grossed out a little as I read through Addition by Adoption. It’s a must-read for anyone who has adopted or is considering adoption. Shoot, it’s a must-read for anyone who’s a parent. Be warned, however: If you use twitter, you’ll be tempted to try to @reply to some of his recorded tweets. That doesn’t really work too well in the book world. 😉
If you’ve read this blog for any amount of time, you know that I rarely (if ever) say you should buy a book. This one, however, is a must-read! In addition, a portion of the proceeds will go to charity:water to fund a clean water well in Ethiopia.
Come on…how cool is that?
You can pre-order now (until April 20) and you get some added benefits, including more money going to charity:water and a copy of the book signed by the world-famous Lexi!
Reading this book might change your life. Then again, it might not. But it will help change countless lives in a country that is very near and dear to my heart.
