Where’s she from?
This weekend, we went to Nashville, Indiana, for a one-night getaway. More details will be posted later (I promise…it’s almost done already…seriously!). While we toured a few of the shops, I’m pretty sure the kids would say their favorite was the toy store. While Aiden, Alyson, and Christy looked around, I pushed Mihret around in the stroller.
A little girl, maybe 3 or 4 years old came up to me while we were there. She pointed at Mihret and asked, “Is she from China?”
“No,” I said with a slight chuckle. “She’s not from China. She’s from Ethiopia. That’s in Africa.”
“Oh,” she said as she turned towards her Mommy. “She’s from Ashika.”
Later that evening, Christy was playing with Mihret in the pool when the same girl came up to them and said, “Hey! I know you! She’s from China!”

That girl’s got a mind for geography like I do. 🙂 China.. Africa.. same difference..
I wonder who she knows from China.
Her mom explained that they do have friends who adopted from China. But they also have friends in the process of adopting from the Congo.
There was another part of the conversation that rubbed me the wrong way. I found out later it rubbed Christy the wrong way, too. I’ll probably discuss it on here at some point, but not now. It’s all a matter of semantics, really.
