Disney Vacation – Downtown Disney

There was some confusion as to how much it would cost to go to Downtown Disney. We knew it is officially part of the Walt Disney World Resort. So we weren’t sure if it was something that was just available to people staying at the hotels. Because of this uncertainty, we almost didn’t even try to go.
We finally decided to give it a try. We could always turn around if you had to pay some extravagant price or something. We figured we’d spend about an hour or so there and then go back to the hotel.
We were there all day.
Alyson got over her new-found ‘fear’ of dinosaurs (thanks a lot, DinoLand). It’s amazing what a bunch of oversized animatronic lizards (or are they birds?) can do. 🙂
So we ate lunch at the T-Rex Cafe. The kids explored the place while we waited on the food. Every 20 minutes or so, the restaurant went dark, the dinos went nuts, and there was a ‘meteor shower.’ It was pretty cool.
Christy and I shared a Gigantosaurus Burger. This thing was huge. A whole pound of meat! The guy at a nearby table had one, too. And he ate the whole thing himself! I have no idea how he did it.
We spent the night before driving around Orlando looking for a Cold Stone Creamery to celebrate Christy’s birthday. We were given directions by several different people. They were all wrong. We never got our Cold Stone that night. We had to settle for some cake and ice cream from a local grocery store. As we were leaving T Rex Cafe, we saw this amazing dessert coming out called Chocloate Extinction. Imagine Death By Chocolate on steroids. We decided it was the perfect birthday cake for Christy and Aly’s birthdays. So, we planned on coming back to T Rex Cafe later in the day.
And we did.
We had fun exploring Downtown Disney and all its shops, including the Lego Store, a big-huge Disney Store, and a Disney Christmas Shop.
You may be wondering why almost all of the pictures are of Alyson. Well, that’s because loves getting her picture taken (in case you hadn’t noticed). But there’s another reason. Did you see that picture towards the end of the kids sitting and looking up at something? It’s the big tv screen in the Disney Store. Aiden was hypnotized by it and decided he’d rather watch Up previews than look around the store. So he sat and watched.
We had a lot more fun at Downtown Disney than we thought we’d have. It’s too bad they hadn’t opened the hot air balloon yet. We missed it by just a few weeks. That would have been a blast!
