Disney’s Animal Kingdom (part 1)
I’ll be honest: the first time I heard about Disney’s plans to add Animal Kingdom to Disney World, I thought it was a lame idea. I mean, there’s already Busch Gardens, Sea World, and all kinds of zoos. How could they possibly come up with something different?
Well, they did. True, it doesn’t have the same aura as Magic Kingdom or even Hollywood Studios (from what I can remember…that was more than 15 years ago), but Animal Kingdom does manage to take you to another place. Of all of the kingdoms at Disney World, this was the one Christy and Alyson were looking forward to the most.
Our original plan was to go to Magic Kingdom on Tuesday (Christy’s birthday) and then Animal Kingdom on Thursday (Aly’s birthday). We discovered that the Magic Kingdom was open for extended hours on Thursday, so we made the switch and went to Animal Kingdom first. That turned out to be a great thing!
Not only do you get in free on your birthday, but they also give you a button announcing your birthday to everyone. And everyone notices. It seemed like someone wished Christy happy birthday every time she turned around. I think the official count was 33, but I’m sure it was more than that!
