March Madness: Aiden’s Picks
I promised to share the kids’ picks for this year’s tournament. We’ll start off with Aiden. He’s definitely gotten into the spirit this year, wanting to know where he is in the standings after each game and rooting for the teams he picked. He doesn’t know all of the “rules” (i.e., one 12 will almost always upset a 5; no 16 has ever beaten a 1; etc…), but has picked a pretty impressive bracket.
Upsets
I think the only upset he picked was Tennessee over Oklahoma State, which, unfortunately for the Vols, didn’t happen. Everyone said Pearl’s team had tightened down on defense this year. Really? How could they let a guy drive all the way to the bucket without anyone touching him and only seconds remaining? It cost them the game.
He does also have Purdue making it to the Sweet 16 as a five-seed. That’s a mild upset, if you can call a 5 beating a 4 an upset.
Final Four
Another “rule” is that it’s rare for all four 1 seeds to make it to the Final Four. I think last year was the first time it had ever happened. In spite of this, Aiden has gone with the favorites:
Louisville
North Carolina
Connecticut
Pitt
Championship Game:
Carolina 71
Louisville 69
