Requiem for a Hamster
Two and a half years ago, Aiden brought home Tony Stewart the Hamster.
This past Tuesday afternoon, Aiden discovered Tony lying in his cage. Motionless.
Tony was a good hamster and he’ll be missed. Aiden is doing remarkably well. Mom and Dad, however, were a different story. It took all we could do to avoid breaking down in tears when we took him out of his cage for the last time.
Alyson went outside, sat in the snow, and cried her eyes out after the discovery.
And then there’s Bella. She definitely knew something was wrong and she freaked out, running from room to room looking for the little guy as we cleaned out his cage.
We’ll have a proper burial in our backyard once the ground thaws a little more. He’ll be laid to rest next to Alyson’s goldfish we buried in May.
Goodbye, Tony. You were a good little hamster. You’ll be missed.

Catching up on your blog…been there, done that. And I DID cry…we’ve buried a total of four hamsters. Silly little critters make their way into our hearts, eh?
