Gas Prices
Apparently, gas prices shot up at least 50 cents a gallon today. I’m sure some of it is in reaction to this fine news.
I’m tired of the politicians blaming each other for the mess we’re in without offering any real solutions that will have an impact on my pocketbook today. While they practice political posturing and finger-pointing, we’re getting robbed in broad daylight and relying completely on foreign countries to satisfy our oil addiction.
Do we need to move away from oil-based fuels? Sure. But it’s going to take a long time getting there. And that doesn’t help us very much in the short-term, does it? And even then, we wouldn’t be able to to move completely away from oil-based products. But it would definitely lower our consumption levels.
In the meantime, I don’t understand why our leaders are allowing us to be held hostage by OPEC and like-minded oil cartels. Why do we have to remain so dependent on foreign oil?
I’m starting to think the Drill Here, Drill Now gang (short-term answer) and T. Boone Pickens (more long-term solution) are beginning to make some sense. Isn’t there a way to combine the two? Of course, I’m not a politician and I’m not an scientist or an economist. So what do I know. Really?
Then again, why am I worried? We’re all going to be sucked up in a black hole soon anyway, right? Or maybe we’ll have to wait till December 12, 2012 when the Mayan calendar resets and we’re apparently supposed to experience some type of grand apocalypse.
