Finally! A Championship worth watching!
Over the last few years (with the exception of 2002, since my Hoosiers were in the game), the National Championship game has held little interest for me. I really didn’t have a strong emotional tie to the teams and they were rarely close games. They definitely didn’t match the unexpectedness and the adrenaline rush that comes with the opening rounds of the most wonderful time of the year.
Since the Final Four games had already been such duds this year – in spite of the hype promising these could be the best games ever played, since all four #1 seeds had made it there for the first time…ever – I had fairly low expectations for tonight’s game. It still had a lot of hype going into it, though.
Although I absolutely love the tournament, the Championship game has been somewhat of a letdown in recent years. So much so that I have rarely stayed up to watch the end.
Not tonight.
Granted, I didn’t watch most of the first half, I did stay up to watch Memphis’s three-headed monster known as a horrific free throw record manage to rear its ugly head again. What an amazing comeback for Kansas. And the game went into overtime, which made it even more interesting. I have several friends that are KU fans and I’m happy for them.
Rock…Chalk…Jayhawk!
