Ugh
Christy’s step-mom’s mother passed away on Friday. Although it really wasn’t unexpected, that doesn’t necessarily make it less painful. We were in Mooresville all day today for the visitation and the funeral. Then we all went out to eat, which was a good thing because today’s also Christy’s birthday and I was concerned that we were going to have to settle for Big Macs and fries in the car on the way home for her birthday dinner.
After we get home, I eventually check on some news online. I’m curious about IU’s coaching search because they apparently want to have a coach lined up by this Thursday(!) and their first choice said “Thanks, but no thanks.”
So I find this story about Steve Alford. OK, good. I didn’t want him to be IU’s head coach last time they were looking for a coach…I still don’t want him as coach. My opinion never changed about him.
I also saw that good ol’ Isiah Thomas has weighed in on the whole situation. Two thoughts about this story: 1.) At least the search committee is smart enough to stay away from Zeke; 2.) Sorry, Dakich. I know you really want the job, but this recommendation should be the kiss of death. You probably should go ahead and start moving your stuff out of the Head Coach’s Office.
But wait! He hasn’t moved out yet. He’s still coach. And he has kicked two players off the team.
And here I thought Sampson’s imitation of a kamikaze pilot, the heartbreaking loss in the Big Ten Tournament and the dismal performance in the NCAA Tournament were signs that the program had hit rock bottom. Unfortunately, it doesn’t sound like it. Things are still pretty chaotic and I wonder how much further down this program can spiral before it somehow rights itself.
I think the only thing left to do is just sit back and watch my kids do something completely random…
