Ouch! That’s gonna leave a mark!
During one of the first (of many) snows/icings we experienced this year back in good ol’ HoosierLand resulted in black ice forming on our front steps. How do I know this? Because it was a Sunday morning and I was in a hurry to get across the street to open up the church building before anyone else arrived. I placed one foot on the front step and **WOOSH!!** My foot slid upon that invisible menace. It looked like a perfectly innocent patch of concrete. Fortunately, I kept my balance and, while not entirely graceful, managed to make it across the street unscathed.
Not so today. I went outside when Christy got home to help her unload her car. I had thrown salt on the steps earlier today. And I really didn’t think it had gotten as cold as it had. So I really didn’t expect anything but safe footing on my journey to her car. As soon as my foot landed on that step, ***WOOOSH!!*** It slipped out from under me. I wasn’t nearly as fortunate as in my previous experience with the black ice from that one place that really shouldn’t know anything about ice, snow, or cold…you know…that one place…with the weeping…and the gnashing of teeth.
So my right foot slipped and I somehow managed to turn in midair and land with all of my weight directly on my left knee as it hit the corner of the step. I tried to get up and collapsed, rolling around on the wet sidewalk. I’m sure it was quite a visual experience.
Thanks to ice and some anti-inflammatory drugs, I think it’s going to be OK. We’ll see in the morning if there’s really any swelling or not. Immediately after I got inside, I looked at my knee and it had a nice black & blue streak running across my knee. But that discoloration has since vanished.
We’ll see tomorrow…

*kisses your knee*
Poor baby. I hope there isn’t any lasting damage. I’m still waiting for the day I take a slide all the way down our front steps. I always go down them like an old lady because I don’t have insurance.
