Speechless?

When I woke up Friday morning, my throat was scratchy and I could barely talk. I made sure to take in a lot of Vitamin C and drink lots of fluids. Voice got better – until after Friday’s Soup Supper at church.

Woke up yesterday morning and couldn’t talk again. Went to the store and got some DayQuil. Although the aftertaste makes me think of Vicks VapoRub, it has done wonders for my throat and my cough and I’ve been juiced up on DayQuil ever since.

It didn’t make my voice 100% for preaching today, though. It was more like 70% or so. When I get the recording converted to digital, you’ll definitely be able to tell that my voice was going away. Don’t worry – I sounded a lot worse than I felt!

Speaking of church, I went into the building early to get some things ready ahead of time this morning. I felt an oven-like blast of heat coming from the Sanctuary. Went inside and the thermostat said 99 degrees. Yes – 99 degrees! We’ve been having issues with the thermostat working properly for the last month or so. We thought we had it resolved. Apparently not. Sometime during the night, Mr. Thermostat decided we all needed to be baked in preparation for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday. We got it down to a cool 78 degrees by the time service began.

I told them it would be a good time to pull out a good old fashioned hellfire and brimstone sermon. I didn’t, though. I don’t think I have a hellfire and brimstone sermon in me. Scaring hell out of you just ain’t my cup o’ tea, I guess.
