Blackhawk Brigade
The Cowan Blackhawk Brigade had an ice cream social tonight that concluded with a preview performance of the show they will be performing tomorrow at the Indiana State Fair Band Day. They were pretty good for a small band. The color guard was impressive. I was surprised at how many people showed up just to support the band simply because they represent the Cowan community.
I was sad to find out that tomorrow is the only time they will take the field in competition. They are a track band and do not compete in regular marching competitions outside of the State Fair and some county fairs. Apparently, they’ve already performed in some county fairs and the State Fair is their grand finale.
I’m surprised that with the amount of time, efffort, and money that has already gone into the show, they’re not going to do any more competitions. And they won’t be performing during halftimes, since Cowan doesn’t have a football team. But, such is ilife in Smalltown, USA, I guess.
And I was looking forward to being a Cowan Band Geek Groupie this year.

OOH! Can we be band groupies with you guys? We will just know to start earlier next year! 🙂
Still, this doesn’t rule out a competition this fall–I’m sure there will be one in Muncie, and we have never been out to see any of the Hamilton County bands.

Contests are starting really late this year – not till after Labor Day. What about the New Castle Invitational? I know there’s one at Lawrence Central sometime, too.
It’s been a rather frustrating endeavor this year to find nearby contests. The sites I’ve normally gone to are finally updating with this year’s schedules. I’m rather annoyed with the whole process this year. I’d still like to go sometime, though.
So what’s the story with the shaved leg? I forgot to ask.
