Catching Up

These are pictures I uploaded about a month ago and forgot to post them on here. We took the kids to the Farm Fun Day at the Western North Carolina Nature Center in Asheville (I posted a little bit about it here). Here is a sample of what we did.

The goat Aiden is feeding is just a few days old. And yes, that’s goat milk on the right.

If we would have let her, I’m sure Aly would have stayed on this horse all day! Her love for horses is one of the reasons we’re convinced that she’s going to own a farm someday. If we actually do wind up moving to Muncie, she’ll be in heaven. Our neighbors own two horses that are very friendly.

Here’s Aly milking the goat again. She’s feeding hay to some goats in the petting area on the right. While we were in the petting area, a lady came up to me and said, “Is that your son?” as she pointed to Aiden. I thought, ‘Great, what did he do now?’ and told her that yes – he was, in fact, my son. Then she asked for permission to take his picture for the Asheville Citizen Times newspaper! I don’t know if his picture was actually published in print or not, since it’s impossible to find the Asheville newspaper here. He did, however, get published in the photo gallery. He thought that was pretty cool. You can purchase a reprint for $25. Or – you could just look at it online like we are.

When Aiden started to milk the goat, it seemed like he thought he’d hurt her. He never really seemed completely comfortable with the whole process, but he did loosen up after a bit.

If you spend any time at all in the Appalachian region, you’ll discover that clogging is a big deal here. Like most forms of folk dance, its moves seem fairly simple, but it’s a little more difficult than it appears. We watched a clogging team perform and they sent their cloggers out to invite people to join them. The red-headed boy to the left of Aly invited her to the stage. She learned some of the basic moves. Now every time she hears any bluegrass, country, or folk music, she pretends that she’s clogging!
