A crazy day at school…
I walk into the school library this morning, planning on catching up on some reading for Leadership and Administration in Christian Ed. As I walked through the entrance to the library, I saw Rich standing at one of the computers, trying to look something up in the catalog. Rich is the leader of Reach Out on Campus (ROC) at Ohio University. When I interned in Athens, Rich took me under his wing. Actually, his whole family kind of took me under their wing (even though I killed their daughter’s fish). Rich challenged me and inspired me more than most people had. Actually, few people have challenged and inspired me as much since, now that I think about it.
He was in town to get some books for a DMin class he’s taking in the Summer. They were on their way back from a college visit for their eldest daughter (I couldn’t believe she was that old…but I got to see her…yep…she’s old enough!) and were only in town for a short while. It was great to catch up with them, even though it was for a very short time. The amazing thing is the girls remembered who I was. They weren’t much older than my kids are when I was in Ohio.
I was very happy to see them. It made my day.
It’s a good thing, too. I figured out in one of my classes today that I’ve been reading the wrong books all semester. It’s one of those classes you can take for different credits and each emphasis has to read certain books. I had misread what I was supposed to be reading. So I’ve been reading the wrong books all semester. The good thing is that the books were worthwhile. The bad thing is that I have to write a review of the other book. You know – the one I didn’t read.
And it’s only available at the library on reserve, which means I can only read it for an hour at a time. Isn’t that just dandy?
