Hoops Highlights – Day 4

I was too tired Sunday to write my thoughts about the final day of the opening weekend of the tournament.  Yesterday…well…I completely forgot.  There’s stuff I wanted to post, but forgot.  Guess you have to sue me or something.  Anyway, here are my thoughts…

* Yes, it’s unusual for a Hoosiers fan to cheer for Purdue, but I really wanted the Boilers to beat Florida.  Not only would it give the Big(11)Ten another team in the Sweet Sixteen, but it would have set up a Butler vs. Purdue matchup in St. Louis.  That would have been cool.

* The local station did not initially carry the Virginia Tech/SIU game.  I think the Vanderbilt game (or maybe the Kentucky game) was on instead.  Midway through the second half, this crawl came across the bottom of the screen: “From News Channel 11…to Virginia Tech fans…the decision not to show the game was made in New York and not by us.  Please call them (phone number given) with your concerns.”  In other words, stop bugging us.  I thought it was pretty funny.  Especially since I had to leave my house to watch my desired games this past weekend.

* Texas ruined my chances of picking a perfect Final Four.  Yes, I got sucked in by the hype.  My other three are still in.  Florida and Kansas look good, but I’m still holding on to my UCLA pick to win the championship.

* I think I don’t like doing brackets because I have to make picks without being able to explain them.  When I’m wrong I’m just plain wrong with no nuance about it.  And it’s public.  I don’t like being wrong in public.  Of course, most people are wrong so it’s all one happy family.

I’m excited about the matchups this weekend!  Great games ahead.  Yep – it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
