First Day

liztodd reminded me that I didn’t report about Aiden’s first day of school. So, here it is:

It wasn’t nearly as earth-shattering as I thought it would be. There was an hour-long assembly and then we sat in the cafeteria with just the Kindergartners and their parents for a “short” (half-hour) informational meeting with the Kindergarten teachers. Then they visited their room. Aiden was excited to see his cubby with his own name on it! There are four or five computers set up (it was a big deal in our school that we had two Commodore PET computers for the entire school! Anyone else remember “Press Play on Tape”? I still say that every once in a while and get really strange looks from people – especially my wife!) and a TON of books. He’s gonna be in heaven there.

He had the option of staying till noon or leaving with us. He chose to leave with us, which kind of surprised me since he was so excited to be in that classroom.

There are 18 kids in his class. More than half of them have “nontraditional” names (like Aiden and Caedon…that’s going to be interesting). He doesn’t go back until Monday, though. They break up the class into smaller groups for the first few days. It makes it easier for the kids as well as the teacher. I’m sure I’ll have more to post on Monday.

Mom and Dad seem to be doing fine right now.
