Predictable?
When I’m helping a kid with a cut or some other injury, I have a habit of asking the kid if it hurts. When they say “Yeah,” I respond, “Well we could cut your ear off. Then your knee (finger, foot, etc.) wouldn’t hurt as much.” Most of the time it gets an awkward response and maybe a smile. At least it takes their minds off the pain for a small moment.
I guess I’ve been saying that too much to the kids.
One time, when Alyson hurt her finger, I said, “You know what we should do…” and before I could finish the phrase, she put her hands over her ears with a big smile.
Alyson has had some…how do I say this delicately? She’s had some potty issues the last few days and her posterior has begun to hurt some. Yesterday, after going potty, she told me her bottom hurt. I said we could take care of it in just a minute. I figured I’d put some lotion on it to prevent some redness.
She said, “Are you going to cut my bottom off?!?”
