An old school injury
Back in September or early October, I helped setup for a brunch at school. When I opened a co-worker’s door to get out the food, it somehow popped back and pulled my right thumb back close to my wrist. There was some slight discoloration down near my wrist. It’s like I did some type of damage deep down on my thumb – like a joint, or something. It hurt for about a week, and basically went away. It would come back a little bit every once in a while, but I really didn’t worry about it too much.
Yesterday, when I was rushing to copy my translation onto the Greek final, I had to write really fast. I guess I was holding the pen wrong or something, because my thumb/wrist started to hurt again. It hasn’t really stopped hurting since. It’s not constant pain, but just when I try to move my thumb in certain directions. There’s a very limited mobility.
Why is it that taking constant notes hurts your hand every week, anyway? Shouldn’t your hand strength and endurance build up over time? It’s like my hand has gotten weaker over the semester, instead of getting stronger.
No matter – school’s over for a few weeks. That’s worth celebrating.
