Politics

So, I’ve been trying to avoid politics in MattDanTodd Land as of late, but there are a few things I just have to say:

* I don’t know if Tom DeLay committed the crimes of which he is accused. It doesn’t matter if I know or not, since I’m not a Texan and I never plan on being a Texan. That being said, his booking yesterday made quite an impression on me. Someone deserves a pay raise for his act of genius. If his political career survives the scandal, he has ensured that his mug shot won’t show up on the news every time he gets a headline. I don’t care what party you’re with – you’ve gotta respect that move!

* This whole Miers Supreme Court nomination debacle makes me wonder if Bush has something up his sleve and the politicians are playing right into his hands. Is this a Rope-a-Dope to get a “less controversial” conservative on the Bench? It seems to me there should be more method to his madness than is evident at this time. If it’s not part of some “grand plan” on his part, he sure laid an egg with this nomination, it seems. We’ll see if the egg winds up on his face (oh man, I kill me!).

* Again with Miers, how come it was OK for political conservatives to say “Roberts should be confirmed because the President has the right to choose who he wants on the Bench (that’s what I remember hearing a lot a short time ago during his confirmation hearing),” and then turn around and complain about that same President’s next nomination to that same Court? Does that sound like hypocrisy to anyone else?

* I’m sick of the attack ads we’re getting here from the Virginia governor’s race. It’s junk like this that makes people say, “See, that’s why I don’t vote! It’s too dishonest!”
