We meet again…

Last night, we had some friends drop by for a visit. They were on their way to Knoxville from Florida, and will ultimately return home to Iowa.

Christy and I met Rick and Cheryl and their kids in June of last year. We went visited them in Iowa because I was a candidate for their youth minister/worship leader position in a new church plant that was scheduled to launch at the end of the summer. We hit it off great and got along really well. A friendship began to develop. When we boarded the plane, part of me was excited about the prospect of moving to Iowa.

God had other plans. I keep saying He had to shut many doors get me to come to seminary. I was disappointed when Rick told us they were going to pursue other candidates – not so much because of the rejection, but because I was beginning to look forward to getting to know the Gateses more.

I’ve never had a friendship begin because someone didn’t hire me. It really seems odd when you think about it on the surface. We have bought into the vision for Crossroads in Perry and I want to support them as much as possible. They are the same way. Rick told me last night he was excited for us and the opportunities before us with the Masters degrees we are pursuing.

Who knows? Maybe someday we will join together in a partnership. Someone keeps telling me that the west side of Evansville needs more “life-giving” (I’ve borrowed that phrase from Rick) churches. Maybe this could be one more piece to the puzzle?

We’ll just have to wait and see…

I know God has it all worked out. I can’t wait for Him to show me!
