Dirty little secret…
OK, I’ll admit it. I’ve been mesmerized in by the hype and I have to say I actually enjoy the show. Yep, I’m a sucker. When I heard about it, I was skeptical, but now I might be the only person in America watching Rock Star: INXS. Actually, I don’t watch it all the time, because I can never figure out which day it’s on at which time and I miss most of the show.
While I’ve enjoyed INXS, I’ve never really been what you’d call a fan of the band. Their search for a lead singer, however, has caught my interest. Not because I am really that interested in INXS, but because these contestants have talent! The production value is lacking – sometimes I feel like I’m watching New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, or something staged like that, but the performance level is unmatched. It’s much better than American Karaoke. I watched Idol the first year and enjoyed it. The second year, it felt too much like a bunch of lounge singers – no style or variation, even when the producers tryed to force them to pick different styled songs every week. I’ve tried to get into it since then, but just can’t do it.
That’s where Rock Star takes the concept to an entirely new level. The contestants are singing with a live band and they are actually encouraged to display their talents outside of mere vocals. It’s really quite entertaining, in spite of the awkward presence of the hosts.
At first, I was impressed by JD Fortune’s (yes, it’s a corny rock star name, isn’t it?) ability to bring down the house, but his act has become tired. Jordis, however, has impressed me from the beginning and keeps on knocking my socks off every time she performs. I don’t know if I’d put her with INXS, but she definitely has some talent that is worthy of being signed.
I wonder what they’ll try to do for an encore, if any. I mean, INXS isn’t going to be looking for another lead singer next year. Are they going to find another band whose singer committed suicide and find them a replacement? Nirvana would be the next candidate, then – right?
Doubtful.

Rock Star Rocks
I know you envy me for my especially creative subject line.
I, too, love Rock Star. At first, I was sure that it would be something that would not interest me–especially since I am such a fan of “American Karaoke” as you call it. But I have been hugely surprised by how POSITIVE this show has been. It really says to American Idol, “Eat This!” I think Simon Cowell and producers have been maybe slightly disillusioned to think that they need to harshly criticize in order to keep their ratings. Rock Star shines bright in that rarely are the performers put down for a less than perfect performance. I really enjoy the show. Actually, we were just talking recently about “whatever happened to rock and roll?” It seems like it has been a lost art and there is no middle ground between R&B and Hip-Hop.. I’m loving the music. I’m loving Mig. He’s my favorite all the way.
Re: Rock Star Rocks
Mig is definitely growing on me. I liked him the first time I saw him, but there were so many good contestants that I really couldn’t keep track of who was who. Because of that, Jordis and JD stuck out. Now, Jordis has the lead in my book, but MiG (why call yourself a Soviet fighter jet?) is a close second, especially after last week’s performance.
Simon has painted himself into a corner – if he were to start being nice, it would ruin whatever roles the judges play. I wonder if INXS feels they need to be somewhat nice because they are going to have to work with whoever wins. As a side note, do you think the band has already picked who they want to win, and the rest is just a formality? I’m sure they’ve narrowed it down some in their minds.
By the way – who are you? Just curious.
Re: Rock Star Rocks
What did you think of tonight’s elimination round, Zabet? You post on here often, and it takes me a while to figure out who you are. You need a name. I think you should either call yourself Zabet (or is it Zaybet?) or Aardvark Bob. You choose.

Re: Rock Star Rocks
Ok, i’ll go Zabet.. I used to try to find all kinds of pieces of that name to use..
I was wondering too if they already know who they want. I think they want JD or Mig. I don’t think they want Ty. (Do you think he’s cocky?)
Anyway, got to go to work. Hope your foot heals soon.. that’s a bad place for an injury.
Hug Aiden and Alyson for me.
