That coulda been me
So, this morning/afternoon I figured it was my responsibility to share the history of our nation with our kids and have them watch Bush’s swearing in.
What was I thinking?
I got them to sit down for a grand total of 3 seconds. In spite of Aiden’s repeated objections, he sat with me during the actual oath, but I barely even got to hear it. I know he didn’t hear anything. They were more concerned about marching like toy soldiers to the military music.
Speaking of military music, as the ceremony progressed, I started to play the “What if?” game. The Army had pursued me pretty heavily to join their band. Who knows? If I had given in to their arguments, I could have been there sitting in the cold as an eyewitness to history. I’m happy with the choice I made, though!
The ceremony also induced a flashback to my high school days. Our director my senior year loved Americans We quickly became my least favorite band song of all-time. I don’t think it’s as bad as it used to be, but it’s not really my favorite song.
It’s funny what triggers memory.

You’re such a good dad, trying to teach the kids how to love America and all. 😉
Maybe they’ll be able to sit down the next time a president is sworn in.
Ain’t I, though?
