Thank God it’s Monday. Seriously.

I see the memes come around every Sunday night. They usually look something like this…

I admit that most of them are pretty funny. Who’s really going to choose Monday over the weekend? I love my job. Seriously. I look forward to going into the office every day. I know I’m a fortunate soul in that respect. But if I had the choice between the weekend and going in to work, I’d probably choose the weekend, too.

What if we had a different approach?

The old Todd family motto declares “It behooves us to live!” And you aren’t living very much of a life if you’re dreading ⅐ of it. Right? Maybe we need to take a different approach. I know it’s tough. It’s almost impossible to approach Monday without some sense of dread – even when you love your job.

So I’ve searched. I’ve contemplated. I’ve thought and meditated. And I’ve manged to come up with five reasons to thank God it’s Monday. Here they are, in no particular order…

  1. Monday Night Football. And the NCAA men’s basketball national championship. Enough said.
  2. New week, new opportunities. You can improve a skill, meet a new person, or kick a bad habit. You name it, you can do it. The world is your oyster.
  3. You get to tell everyone what you did over the weekend. If we don’t want the weekend to end because we’re too busy doing whatever it is we do on the weekend, Monday presents a great opportunity to tell everyone about it.
  4. One less day until the weekend.
  5. Without Monday, we wouldn’t have songs like Manic Monday.

OK. Maybe those weren’t the most earth-shattering reasons.

But that’s OK. Monday is really just a state of mind, anyway. And since it’s already Monday and there isn’t anything we can do about it, let’s make the most of it. Maybe that previous list was a little lame. But this one isn’t. Here are five ways you can make the most out of it being Monday:

  1. Smile more. It can make someone’s day. You never know what someone else is going through.
  2. Reset. Was last week a tough one? Last week is in the past. This is your chance to re-write your own story.
  3. Choose kindness. As someone once said, “Be kind. Everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle.” A great way to start the week off on the right foot is by choosing kindness.
  4. Eat that frog. Get your biggest, most daunting task out of the way so it isn’t lingering over you all week long.
  5. Laugh. It really is the best medicine.

Speaking of laughing…

Oh, come on. It’s funny. You know it is.

Happy Monday, everyone! Now kick next Monday in the teeth!
